make the Hand-off!
Every day, hundreds of seniors in Broward County hunger not just for fresh, nutritious food but also for a one-on-one connection. When you give just one hour a week to deliver Hand-Off Meals for Seniors, you’re doing more than dropping off food — you’re sharing friendship, care, and hope. What a simple way to make a big difference in a senior’s life … and your own!

“Being a little older ourselves, this is so simple. We’re driving to someone’s home, providing them with good food, and having small conversations. This is a godsend to think that we could impact the life of someone who is lonely and hungry.”
– Ron & Tawnee

“Like many cultures in South Florida, Hispanics are very family oriented. We’re raised to respect and care for the elderly. For seniors with no family who go hungry because nobody’s checking on them or they have no way to get to the store, this program is amazing. An hour a week is nothing for the chance to change the life of someone forever.”
– Kim

My day-to-day life as an electrical engineering major is stuck up with a bunch of hard classes and responsibilities. On Wednesdays, delivering meals to Miriam gives me an escape. She’s 102 years old, 5 times my age, but getting to know seniors like Miriam brings joy to my life.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
How much time should I plan?
Most volunteers spend about 60–90 minutes each week depending on location and time spent with the senior. For consistency, we ask for an initial six-month commitment.
What if I need to change my time or miss a week?
Changes in delivery times or days can be arranged in advance with your senior. If you are out of town or have a conflict, we will be glad to arrange for someone to cover for you.
How do I get the meal pack?
Thirty minutes before you want to pick up your meal pack, call the restaurant and notify them. They will have everything ready for you when you arrive.
I’m an introvert (or extrovert), will this work for me?
Absolutely! This program fits every personality. Your connection can be as simple as a smile and an encouraging word or as vibrant as you prefer.
Can we (couples, friends, parents/grandparent and kids ...) deliver together?
Bring your favorite people along! Deliveries are a great way to spend time together while helping others. Volunteering with Hand-Off Meals for Seniors also counts towards community service hours. Each interested adult (18 and older) can submit an application.
Who are the community organizations/foundations that help make these food deliveries possible?
We are grateful to community funders like The Jim Moran Foundation, Community Foundation of Broward, Miami Dolphins Foundation, Publix Super Markets Charities, Walgreens Foundation, Aging and Disability Resource Center and other teammates who cover the price gap so senior neighbors get the very best in every meal.
